Doug Wills and the ‘Ground Force’ crew from the Medina Centre in Newport on the Isle of Wight for adults with moderate to severe learning difficulties have not only been busy with a new contract to build new planters over the winter for all of the islands stations, they have also grown all of the plants to go in them, the hanging baskets for every station and made planters for both Lymington and Brockenhurst.
If this wasn’t enough they still have the ongoing job of replenishing the planters and baskets for both Sandown and Shanklin and when the CRO asked them if they could “just add another planters etc 4 for Lymington and Brockenhurst”, even this didn’t faze the hardy team!
They have done brilliantly and though beset with being short staffed through various disasters they have managed to start delivering them to the stations, Ryde being the first.
Staff from Brockenhurst Station came over to the Island in June with a van to pick up a heavy load of plants, compost and the wooden planters, whilst the CRO took over the 10 large hanging baskets, complete with snails and SPIDERS which are still creating havoc in her car. (see Bobby’s Big Nose Blog!)
The stations look as always fantastic and have only been added to with the additional flowers from the centre; however they are a welcome addition which in turn has financially supported the centre who made the planters and grew the plants over the winter.
