The Lymington Flower Society did the Community Rail Partnership proud at the event in May to mark the withdrawal of the last UK slam doors mainline with displays that really lit up Lymington Town Station in the heritage colours of red, green and cream that still apply to this line, even with the newer rolling stock taking us into the future to sustain the line.
The CRP would like to express its heart felt thanks to all the hard work the ladies put into raising money for the flowers and for the inspired displays themselves…..
Brilliant job, thank you all so much.

Lymington Flower Ladies get the call to Westminster Abbey
Lymington Flower Club is basking in reflected glory after two of its members were invited to arrange flowers at the High Altar in Westminster Abbey. Since their success at Chelsea Flower Show in 2008 when they were awarded a Sliver Gilt Medal, Janice Viveash and Sue Snook are becoming well known in flower arranging circles. They have represented the Wessex and Jersey Area of NAFAS at the National Show in Coventry and presented a very avant-garde design at the New Forest Show last July.
The flowers for the Abbey were required to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th and Janice and Sue had very little time to prepare a suitable design as the invitation was given at very short notice. They were asked to arrange two 9ft high displays to stand either side of the altar using strilitzeas, white and yellow roses, yellow chrysanthemums, cream and orange gerberas and orange and yellow carnations.
Leaving home at 5.30am, as they had to get their work done by midday, Janice and Sue were honoured to work in Westminster Abbey, but they were surprised to be watched by so many visitors and asked so many questions about their work in several different languages! In spite of such distractions their flowing triangular arrangements on top of tall pedestals were delightful and gained many approving comments, in fact they were shown on BBC Television News that evening as part of an item about the forthcoming Royal Wedding.
If a certain Miss Middleton is seeking talented flower arrangers for a certain day in April she need look no further than Lymington- I am sure Janice and Sue will keep the day free!!!
